The one with the horns |
Hey fellow hunters, it's your pal, ThrillBone, and today we're diving deep into the world of Monster Hunter Now's monster in the desert - The Diablos. Also, I have a Black Diablos guide here if you are interested.
Typically, unlocking Diablos requires reaching Chapter 11, the looming threat 5, which means you need to put in some serious game time. However, during this event, it's likely that Diablos will be somewhat nerfed, making them more accessible to players. This opens the door to some fantastic rewards, and here's why you should be eager to jump into the fray.
Diablos Gear
Diablos weapons, such as the Diablo's Bow, are incredibly powerful. Starting at grade 5 with over 500 attack stats, they're a force to be reckoned with right out of the box. The Diablos armor set is equally impressive, featuring high defensive stats and powerful equipment skills like Slugger (boosts stun power), Heroics (increases attack when HP is low), and Part Breaker (enhances part damage on breakable parts). These skills can greatly enhance your hunting prowess, and the only challenge has been the rarity of Diablos. This event offers an excellent opportunity to gather the materials needed for crafting these potent weapons and armor.
Meet Diablos
So, who are these ferocious monsters you're about to face? Diablos are flying wyverns found in desert biomes. They're vulnerable to ice and paralysis elements, and you can break their back right horn, left horn, and tail. Their weak point is the stomach, and they have the tricky ability to dig underground, which adds an extra layer of complexity to your battles.
Diablo's Strengths and Weaknesses
Diablos are formidable creatures with many strengths, including their 5-star plus ranking and their imposing size. Hitting their weak points with melee weapons can be a real challenge, especially since their tail and other vulnerable areas are tricky to reach. Diablo's hits like a freight train, capable of one-shotting even well-armored hunters. Its underground charge attack is another formidable weapon.
On the flip side, Diablos does have its weaknesses, even if they are fewer in number. Ranged weapons like the bow and light bowgun can easily target their breakable points. As you become more experienced, you'll get the hang of their attack patterns and can effectively dodge their moves. Diablos lack ranged attacks, and if you can stun them before they go underground, you'll have a good window of opportunity for attacks.
Diablos Sweeping Tail Swing |
Diablos will tilt and move its head to the side and prepare to swing its body.
It swings its horns twice in a sweeping motion.
How to Dodge: Roll backward to avoid getting hit. You can roll to the right for the second swing, but it's generally safer to roll backward. After the second swing, you have an opening to attack.
Diablos Tail Swing |
Occurs when you're positioned behind Diablos.
Diablos lifts its tail in the air and swings it twice, first to the right and then to the left.
How to Dodge: Roll backward twice or roll toward the opposite direction of the tail swing. Alternatively, execute a well-timed dodge to avoid the tail swings. After the second tail swing, move back in for an attack.
Diablos Charging Tackle |
Diablos brings its head back and prepares to charge toward you.
It charges, attempting to tackle you.
How to Dodge: Roll to the side to evade the charge. You can then roll back in to attack. If you're using a ranged weapon like a bow, position yourself to continue shooting at Diablos.
Diablos Side Tackle |
Typically happens when you're positioned at Diablos' side.
Diablos brings its head and body back as if preparing to tackle you and then rams you with its shoulder.
How to Dodge: Roll backward to get out of the way of the tackle. After dodging, you can reposition for an attack.
Diablos Underground Attack |
Diablos digs underground and then emerges to attack.
It's one of Diablos' signature moves.
How to Dodge: As Diablos begins digging, roll backward when it pauses, right before it erupts from the ground. You can start attacking immediately as it tries to burrow the rest of its body out of the ground.
Diablos Roar (Crowd Control Attack) |
While it doesn't deal damage, Diablos can roar to stun you for 5 or more seconds.
It cancels out any charge attacks you might be performing.
How to Avoid: If you're close to Diablos, it's hard to avoid the roar. However, if you're far enough away, you may escape the roar with about 3 or 4 rolls. The Earplugs equipment skill can nullify roars.
Stunning Diablos
An important tip is that you can stun Diablos if you attack it while it's burrowing underground. When you achieve this, Diablos will pop back up from the ground and become vulnerable to attacks for an extended period. You can then attack freely while it flops around.
Tips for Battling Diablos
- Here are some crucial tips to remember when going toe-to-toe with Diablos:
- Keep your armor fully upgraded to weather their powerful attacks.
- Don't get greedy - Diablos can still pack a punch even if they're nerfed for the event.
- You can still attack them while they're burrowing underground, potentially stunning them for a significant period.
Recommended Equipment Skills
To maximize your effectiveness in battle, consider these equipment skills:
- Focus: For shorter charge times on charge attacks, particularly useful for bow and greatsword users.
- Divine Blessing: Increases your chances of reducing damage from a monster's attack by 50% or more.
- Last Stand: Boosts your defensive power when your HP drops below 29%.
